Biographical Sketch:
Mark Wallet is an assistant professor at the University of Florida in the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine. He obtained his B.S. in biology and medical technology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and St. Vincent Medical Center in 1998 followed by a PhD in microbiology and immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a postdoc at UNC, Dr. Wallet moved to the University of Florida where he completed a 4 year postdoc studying HIV immunopathogenesis. In 2012, he began his own research lab at the University of Florida where his team studies the roles of host genes/proteins in regulation of innate immune cells – specifically macrophages and dendritic cells. Two major lines of research include: 1. Studying host factors that regulate HIV infection and persistence in macrophages; and 2. Studying host factors that regulated dendritic cell activation and licensing in autoimmune type 1 diabetes. A common thread between these projects is use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and CRISPR/Cas9 gene targeting to derived genetically modified human macrophages and dendritic cells.
